Temporary assistant Chief Constable Elaine Hill said the figures were predominantly good news.
She said: "When the results are put in the context of our continuing resourcing difficulties the overall results are encouraging and a tribute to the commitment of our staff and partner agencies to continue to strive to improving our services, creating safer neighbourhoods and of course protecting the public.
"The increase in the number of serious assaults is one main area causing us concern at the moment.
"One of our main aims is to contribute to safer neighbourhoods and reducing violent crime is an integral part of that. This has been recognised in the setting of a specific target this year to reduce serious violent crime."
