Friday, 2.40pm - A SERVICE and flypast has taken place to mark the 65th anniversary of the Dambusters raids, which were planned and run in Grantham.
St Vincent's house in the town was used as the command centre for 1943's audacious "bouncing bomb" attacks on dams in the Ruhr valley, in Germany's industrial heartland.

Today commemorative flypast took place at Derwent Reservoir, Derbyshire, where pilots trained before the missions.

Actor Richard Todd, who lives in the Grantham area and appeared in the 1954 film The Dambusters, laid poppies on the water of the reservoir.
