Wednesday, 1.50pm - CHILDREN at two schools in the Grantham area will be seen more clearly when walking to school thanks to a donation of high visibility vests from a town opticians.
Specsavers, in Isaac Newton Centre, donated the illuminous vests to Little Gonerby School and Colsterworth Primary School as part of National Walk to School Week.

Store director Nigel Taylor said: "Fewer children are walking to school these days, and one of the reasons is because parents don't feel it's safe enough.

"Hopefully the hi-vis vests will help continue to reassure parents beyond National Walk to School Week and especially during the winter months with dark mornings and nights drawing in."

The headteachers at both schools said they are delighted with the donation of the vests.

Mark Anderson, from Colsterworth Primary School, said: "We have a walk to school bus every Friday which picks up children along the route and walks them to school under the supervision of volunteers.

"The hi-visibility vests will help the children to be seen more clearly and will hopefully persuade more of them to take part."
