Thursday, 2.30pm - A GIANT Himalayan lily has become a larger than life feature in a Folkingham woman's garden.
Joan Insall was surprised when it appeared in her back garden two years ago and grew to 5ft.

She was disappointed when it didn't make an appearance last year, but this year's growth spurt to 7ft has more than made up for it.

Joan said: "It is most impressive and it smells beautiful.

"I didn't notice it was growing again at first, but when I did I noticed it was growing about 3ins a day.

"Now it's looking over next door's garden."

Four fascinating facts on the giant Himalayan lily:

* Cardiocrinum giganteum is the formal name for the giant Himalayan lily;
* The giant Himalayan lily was discovered in 1821 by world-renowned Danish plant hunter Nathanial Wallich in the eastern Himalayas. He introduced it to Europe in 1852;
* The stems grow to between five and 10 feet, and up to 50 large, fragrant, white, waxy flowers bloom on each stem;
* They flower between June and August.

* Have you got a ginormous plant growing in your garden?
