Friday, 5pm - POLICE are investigating three handbag snatches which happened in the same day.
Three victims were targeted yesterday morning.
- A 30-year-old Grantham woman's handbag was snatched in the town centre while she was walking along Railway Terrace at around 7.30am.
The handbag is red, turquoise and black with a playing cards design and turquoise handles, and it has a blue toy gorilla attached.
Inside was some cash, bank cards and a personal CD player.
The thief is described as in his late 20s, of a skinny build, around 5ft 9ins tall, and wearing a brown and cream woolly hat with a peak at the back and a brown parka coat.
The victim also described the thief as having a "ratty face and quite gaunt looking".
- Police believe the second incident may be connected.
At around 10am, a 61-year-old disabled man was approached by a man in Station Road who asked for a cigarette.
The thief then put his hand in the victim's pocket and stole a railcard and a bank paying-in book before running off in the direction of the train station.
The thief is described as in his late 20s and wearing scruffy, baggy jeans and a brown woolly hat.
- The third bag snatch took place behind Sainsbury's between 10am and 11am.
A 24-year-old woman had her handbag snatched by a man on a bicycle while she was walking along the river.
The thief, wearing a hooded top and a baseball cap, rode past, snatched the bag and rode off. The woman was not injured in the incident.
The fake leather handbag, which had a red line down the side, contained a large amount of cash and bill payment books.
Police are looking into the possibility that this theft is also connected.
Anyone with information on any of the thefts is asked to call Grantham Police station on 01476 402222.
