Saturday, 8am - STAFF at a Grantham chicken hatchery have been told their jobs are at risk as part of a company restructure.
The 43 staff at the Aviagen chicken hatchery at Gonerby Moor have been told there will only be 13 jobs available when the factory is transferred to sister company Aviagen Turkeys in March.

Hatchery workers, drivers and maintenance staff are affected by the changes.

An Aviagen spokesman said: "I can confirm we are planning to transfer hatchery facilities at Grantham in Lincolnshire next year to our sister company, Aviagen Turkeys.

"ATL will refurbish the hatchery before operating from there in autumn, 2009. This will coincide with the end of the current lease at their existing turkey hatchery at Tarvin, near Chester.

"Consultation is underway with the employees affected at both sites and this will continue for a few months.

All existing employees at Grantham and Chester will be invited to apply for the 13 new jobs that will be created with the opening of the new turkey hatchery.

"A small number of staff will also transfer to our Stratford hatchery and we will make every effort to find suitable employment opportunities for employees at other sites in the UK and abroad."
