Hazel is county citizen of the year

Thursday, 4.30pm - DEDICATED volunteer Hazel Tebb has been named Lincolnshire's Citizen of the Year by Lincolnshire County Council.
Hazel, 77, moved to Long Bennington with her husband Tom in 1953, and has always been involved in voluntary work.

Shortly after moving to the village she became involved in running the youth club and was a member of the sports and social club, the Village Produce Association and the village hall committee.

For 26 years she acted as fund-raiser and caterer for the Darby and Joan Club. she was also tea lady for the village cricket club and a member of the village playing field committee.

Her husband Tom suffered a stroke in 1976, and Hazel was involved in founding Grantham Stroke Club in 1981.

She remains involved in the running of the club, working as fund-raiser.

Hazel received her award at a ceremony in Lincoln on Wednesday.

She said: "I was speechless - it was a lovely day.

"I'm going to spend the money on something I can keep.

"I wanted to give it to the Stroke club, but they've all said no."
