Sunday, 9am - Yet more sightings have been reported of the killer heron – dubbed the Grantham Garden Gobbler – that has been ravaging the fish populations of ponds in the Grantham area.
Eagle-eyed Margaret Chatwin of Harrowby Lane, Grantham, has spotted the pesky piscivore on two occasions.
Her first encounter with the Garden Gobbler was in Hebden Walk, Grantham, where he was spotted at 5.30am on Wednesday, August 15.
She said: "I've got four fish in my pond, but it's covered so they're safe."
Two days later she saw him again, this time loitering on a roof top, looking for the next pond to ravage in an orgy of beak and feathers.
Terry Wright spotted the bird-brained heron searching in vain for fish near his home last month.
The bungling bird won't have had much luck – he was wading around in a large puddle left by heavy rain.
Terry said: "Three times we've seen the heron wading around in the water and feeding on something – probably worms."
The stunning ornamental lake situated halfway along the driveway at Harlaxton Manor is another favoured nesting site for the Gobbler.
Villagers have reported seeing the heron at various times of the year, often returning from raiding parties to ornamental fishponds in neighbouring villages with its beak stuffed full of ill-gotten koi.
