Thursday, 9am - A MAN from Grantham was jailed for six-and-a-half-years at Lincoln Crown Court on Tuesday after being convicted of having sex with a 14-year-old schoolgirl.
Nigel Story claimed the girl invented allegations against him but he was found guilty of three charges of sexual activity with a child following a jury trial in November.

Judge John Machin told him: "This was a serious course of conduct. You have demonstrated absolutely no remorse at all for this activity."

Story, 38, of Thames Road, Grantham, was also placed on the sex offenders' register for life.

At his trial he was cleared of four further charges of sexual activity with a child. All seven charges were alleged to have taken place over an 11-day period in April 2006.

Mark Van der Zwart, prosecuting, said the offences came to light during a telephone conversation between the teenager and her mother.

Police were called in and DNA matching Story was found on the girl's underwear.

Mr Van der Zwart told the jury "The very fact of the DNA being there is explicit and compelling evidence that this defendant was involved in a sexual relationship with this 14-year-old."

When Story was questioned he was unable to explain the presence of his DNA but he insisted there had been no inappropriate activity between himself and the girl.

In court he denied having sex with the 14-year-old.

His barrister, Patricia Harding, said Story was a hard-working man who had no previous history of sex offences.

She told the court that Story's wife was standing by him despite his conviction.
