Wednesday, 5.10pm - A MOBILE phone mast will be built outside a Grantham supermarket.
O2 will install the base station on the pavement outside the entrance to Lidl in Watergate.

The 12.5m monopole will support three antennae and be accompanied by an equipment cabinet close by.

O2 did not need to get planning permission to install the mast as it is a "licensed code operator" but was required to seek approval from the district council for the choice of site.

Councillors raised concerns about not having any say over whether the mast could be installed or not, but voted eight to five in favour of approving the siting of it.

There are plans to install two more mobile phone masts in Grantham - one in Trent Road and another outside Grantham Hospital in Manthorpe Road.

Do you think mobile phone masts should be allowed to be built in our towns? Are they necessary if we want good mobile coverage or a danger to public health? Let us know what you think. Click here to email your comments.
