Monday, noon - PIPER the chihuahua cross has been returned home safely.
Earlier today we appealed for the 18-month-old dog's owner to come forward, after he was handed into the Avenue Veterinary Centre as a stray on Thursday evening.

Receptionist Joan Oswin was taking him for a walk when his owner's mother recognised him.

Now he is back home in George Street.

* Last Friday, we appealed for the owner of a black and white moggie to come forward, after he was handed into the Avenue Veterinary Centre.

The cat had been roaming near Downtown and his owner could not be traced.

A delivery man from Mansfield spotted the story in the Journal and solved the mystery of how the cat got there.

The cat, belonging to a neighbour, had jumped in his van while the door was open and the delivery man saw him jump out when he began unloading goods at Downtown.

He couldn't catch the runaway moggie so he was forced to leave him there.

Now Itchy the cat has been returned to his home in Mansfield and has been catching up with his pal Scratchy.
