A NEW estate of around 1,800 new homes and a new railway bridge could be built on Poplar Farm between Barrowby and Great Gonerby.
Poplar Farm, which is jointly owned by the Buckminster Trust Estate and Norfolk firm Norwich Hub, could be developed into a new estate with a new primary school, shops, recycling station, surgery, sports and play facilities and footpaths and cycleways linking to the town centre.
The estate will be a mix of homes for sale and affordable home probably maintained by a housing association.
Part of the plan is to bridge the Grantham to Nottingham railway line to connect the two parts of Pennine Way at Barrowby Gate and Great Gonerby.
Allotments in Barrowby Road will be unaffected by the proposals.
The developers intend to apply to South Kesteven District Council for planning permission in the late summer, but is discussing the proposals with the public beforehand.
Homes in the area of the site will receive information leaflets and an exhibition takes place on Thursday, July 22.
Poplar Farm has been earmarked for development as part of Grantham's Growth Point bid submitted to the Government by SKDC.
The council has secured funding of £5 million to use on projects aimed at increasing the population of the town from 38,000 to 60,000 by 2026.
*Planning consultant Ancer Spa is working with the landowners on the project.
An exhibition of the plans takes place at Newton House Nursing Home, Barrowby Road, from 4pm to 8.30pm on Tuesday, July 22.
