Tuesday, 2.15pm - A POSTMAN will soon be swapping his post bag for a rucksack to tackle the famous Coast to Coast Walk.
Mark Beecham, 41, of Alma Park Road, will walk the 192-mile route in May to raise money for Help For Heroes, a charity which supports British soldiers wounded in battle.
Mark, who has been a postman in Grantham for 20 years, said: "The idea's been in my head for about 10 years and it's something I've always wanted to do.
"The opportunity presented itself and I noticed a charity in the press which I thought it would be great to raise money for.
"I was in the TA for about five years and that's part of the reason why I've chosen Help For Heroes."
The route was made famous by British hillwalker and writer Alfred Wainwright.
Starting in St Bees, Cumbria, Mark will walk through the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales and the Yorkshire Moors, finally coming to the end at Robin Hood's Bay, in North Yorkshire.
He anticipates the adventure will take up to two weeks, and he plans to stay in youth hostels along the way.
He said: "I'm really excited about it and I have faith in my map reading.
"I'm really looking forward to walking through the Lake District because the views are spectacular."
