Monday, 11am - GARDENERS are being warned to take precautions to prevent theft of equipment from their gardens and allotments.
Each summer police notice an increase in thefts of gardening equipment, as criminals steal the equipment to order.

Community safety officer Chief Insp Ian Gorst said: "By taking a few basic security precautions and being vigilant and looking out for each other, the community can make a big difference to the level of this type of crime in their area.

"We know that at this time of year, criminals set their sights on gardening tools and outdoor equipment. "It can be easy to steal and to sell on."

Recommendations from police include:

  • Ensuring that all equipment and tools are put away securely.

  • Checking storage areas such as sheds, garages and outbuildings are secure and well maintained.

  • Identity mark all valuable items

  • Take note of any suspicious behaviour or strange vehicles, and if concerned, call the police

  • Ensure access to gardens and allotments is secure.

  • Don't advertise new equipment to thieves by leaving packaging out for the binman.

For security advice or information about property marking call crime prevention officer Peter Tyrrel on 01476 403332 or go to www.lincs.police.uk
