Tuesday, 11.30am - VILLAGERS are up in arms after a travellers' camp was set up near their homes over the weekend.
Several caravans appeared in the field near Stragglethorpe on Saturday, to the anger of locals living nearby.

One villager in Stragglethorpe said the landowner has laid hard core to make a road into the field and seems to be creating individual plots.

South Kesteven District Council said it has no powers to stop them as the field is privately owned, but it is investigating whether any laws have been broken.

Corporate head for sustainable communities Teena Twelves said "The land in question is privately owned and the travellers were invited onto the land by its owner.

"We want to ensure that everyone is treated fairly and any future course of action needs to be considered fully under current laws.

"We have been investigating and monitoring the situation in response to local residents' enquiries to establish clear evidence of the plans of those who have occupied the site.

"This will determine the course of enforcement action, if any, which the council should pursue. Any such action will be taken as quickly as possible."
