Thursday, 2.50pm - A WIND measuring mast installed near Bottesford by a wind farm developer is being dismantled today after the firm failed in its bid to build 10 turbines at the site.
Infinergy is removing the anenometer mast which was installed at the Thackson's Well site in the Vale of Belvoir in 2007.

The masts are used to measure wind speed and strength in preparation for planning applications for wind farms.

The firm was denied planning permission to build turbines at the site following a planning appeal at the end of last year.

As SKDC planners have again argued that a windfarm proposed for Normanton should not go ahead, serious questions need to be asked about the district council's commitment to renewable energy. Normanton is actually in Melton Borough, but because it is on the border with SK they are a party for consultation. It appears that the objections from SKDC are about the aesthetic impact on the landscape, which effectively means that SKDC will now generally object to any windfarm proposal in the district. It is a striking irony that a council that has made such headway on recycling is frustrated by the dumb myopia of NIMBY Tories. Quite shameful.
