A BLIND man from Great Gonerby raised almost £600 for charity this week by walking the length of Hadrian’s Wall.

Alan Wilson, 57, of Kelham Road, Great Gonerby, set off on the walk with his Guide Dog Urwin on Monday, August 2, and completed it in the early hours of Tuesday morning - some eight days later.

Alan said: “Anyone who tells you they can do that walk in six days is telling porkies.

“I really enjoyed it though and myself and Urwin would like to say a big thank you to everyone who sponsored us.”

Alan raised the cash for the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association.

He was given a great surprise welcome on finishing his walk this week.

Alan said: “As we were coming up to the last part of the walk at the heritage centre, they had a bit of a party for me.

“It was really lovely.”

Alan would like to say a particular thank you to the regulars at the Nobody Inn who raised £200 for his final total.
