An art gallery has opened at the new tennis centre in Grantham with a painting exhibition entitled “Launch”.
Jette Rasmussen and Belinda Thomas have set up Blue Owl Art at Grantham Tennis Club, Arnoldfield, and officially opened their gallery at an opening preview night for more than 150 people.
“Launch” is an exhibition featuring Chris Bagnall and Kate Robotham, both emerging artists based in the East Midlands. Chris’s work focuses on the form and presence of strangers, while in contrast, Kate’s work is strongly influenced by the beauty of nature.
Visitors were able to view the paintings on the ground and first floor gallery spaces. Blue Owl Art also has a large display case brimming with contemporary work by artists and makers, some of whom are members of the Design Factory.
On display were designer jewellery made by Rachel Jones, Sheila Kerr and Gill Pottle; porcelain pieces by Katharina Klug and Perin Towlson; colourful lamps and flowers made by eco artist Sarah Turner; hand-printed textiles and sketch-books by Andrew Berwick and cheerful jugs designed by Helen Russell. Also on offer are hand-made greeting cards.
On the first floor the gallery is home to 20 paintings and there are also six smaller charcoal and chalk drawings on display by Chris. Four pieces of work were sold following the preview night.
Belinda, pictured left with Kate and Jette, said: “We are so lucky to have this opportunity at the tennis club. It is such a friendly place to be and we will relish arranging our future drawing and photography exhibitions.”
All artwork can be viewed and purchased daily. The “Launch” exhibition continues until September 5.
