THE Bomb Disposal Unit have been called to the A46 near Doddington Road roundabout after reports of an unexploded object.
Police were called to the scene at about 3.10pm when construction workers working on the widening of the A46 road discovered the unexplained object.
Workers left the object in place and police attended and cordoned off the area around it as a precautionary measure.
The Bomb Disposal Unit were contacted and will be attending to assess the object and if necessary, make it safe.
Both north and southbound carriageways of the A46 near the Doddington Road roundabout have been closed and are likely to remain so for a number of hours. Vehicles will not be able to access the bypass between Pennells roundabout and Carholme Road roundabout. Diversions are being put in place.
People are being asked to avoid the area.
