A LARGE crowd of people turned out to see TV presenter Dallas Campbell officially open the Gravity Fields Festival this afternoon (Friday).
Grantham’s science and arts festival kicked off in The George Centre at 5pm.
Although Dallas was the highlight of the event, entertainment came in the form of two actors portraying a comedic apothecary. In fact the pair, who earned many a laugh from the audience, were the ones to introduce Dallas, who went on to talk about what inspired his interest in science and the arts.
Following the speeches, students from Grantham College paraded spectacular outfits they made with contemporary carnival designers Shademakers.
Gravity Fields is on all week, with the finale the Transformation of the Town event in Grantham town centre. This will see processions, a stunning fire pendulum in the Market Place, and entertainment by Cirque Bijou in front of the Guildhall. Cirque Bijou is fresh from appearing in the opening ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics.
Check out the website throughout the week for more on the festival, plus pick up the Journal on Friday for extensive coverage of the eight-day festival.
