HEALTH bosses have announced plans to close Sycamore Assessment Unit in Beacon Lane, Grantham due to it being an “environmentally unsafe facility for patient care”.
Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust announced this week it will close admissions to the Sycamore Assessment Unit building on the grounds of patient and staff safety.
In a statement the trust said: “The unit in Grantham has been identified as an environmentally unsafe facility for patient care and this view has been acknowledged by the Care Quality Commission and endorsed by trust clinical staff.
The trust will now be working with NHS Lincolnshire in considering the longer term future of mental health in-patient services in Grantham and any proposals will be subject to public consultation.”
The Sycamore Assessment Unit is now closed to new admissions with immediate effect.
Patients requiring inpatient care will be admitted to alternative facilities in Boston and Lincoln and the trust is looking to offer staff at the unit alternative roles elsewhere within the trust.
The trust said: “The trust board recognises that this will be an unwelcome decision for patients and their families in the Grantham area and every effort will be made to minimise the disruption and address any concerns.”
