This calls for a big cheer!

At lunch-time today (Friday), steeplejacks finally put back in place the weathervane atop the spire of the town’s St Wulfram’s Church.

It brings the £600,000 restoration project to a close just over a year after it began. It was back in February 2014 that the scaffolding was erected around the church, to allow Cedar steeplejacks to begin replacing a section of stonework.

Their joy was clear as today they finally placed the last piece.

The photos were taken by well-known Grantham man Roger Graves, who was pleased to have witnessed the moment the work was completed.

He said: “It was very exciting, and the conditions were perfect for it.”
