Stepping into the Royal Mail sorting office brought back a few memories for Councillor Ray Wootten, a former postman.

Coun Wootten, chairman of Lincolnshire County Council, and his wife and fellow councillor Linda Wootten were invited to the Grantham office to see staff in action at their busiest time of year.
Coun Ray Wootten said: “It brought back visions of days gone by when I spent time as a casual postman in Bedford whilst waiting to join Bedfordshire Police.
“Times have changed, although there is familiarity; for instance, teamwork, friendship and commitment of service to the public.”
Office manager Sam Langley gave the couple a tour of the sorting office.
Coun Wootten said: “We came away with more admiration for the job our faithful posties do. Sam explained that letter/card post is up 100 per cent on normal business during the year, and that there is a huge increase in the handling of parcels.
“All the staff were working hard to get to the next stage to get out onto the streets and deliver our mail. He also said he and his team would do their utmost to deliver all the mail so no-one would be disappointed over Christmas.”
