These enterprising students are carrying the hopes of Grantham in the regional finals of a prestigious competion next week.
The team of 13 sixth-formers from Kesteven and Grantham Girls’ School will battle it out in the Young Enterprise area final on Tuesday.
The team will be hoping to impress the judges with a presentation about the company, which has brought a range of gift items to market, including printed T-shirts and mugs.
The Young Enterprise scheme is run by a charity and encourages students nationwide to learn about how businesses work and what makes successful entrepreneurs.
Students taking part in the project develop teamwork, communication skills and confidence, show initiative and boost social skills.
The KGGS company, called Ignite, produces personalised gifts and promotional material by printing mugs, phone cases, mats, jigsaws and similar items. They have had valuable support from adviser Jill Allen, from Grantham-based financial services company Totemic.
Paul Smith, head of business and economics at KGGS, said: “The students came up with the idea for their business, raised capital and sold shares worth £300, and created a company structure, payment and ordering systems and a website.
“They have a supplier who provides the stock of mugs and so on and they then design and print them, package them and distribute them to add value.
“They have a target of a one week lead time from order to delivery.”
The team bidding for honours next week at St George’s Academy, Sleaford, is Annu Chadda, managing director, Amy McLellan, Hannah Broom, Lauren Saxon, Catherine Gardner, Evangaline Luxton. Helena Cowley, Shobika Gomahan, Sarah Clark, Daniella Crossland, Rowena Price, Bethany Kidd and Charlotte Hazelwood.
