An estate agent is fast tracking home buyers from London into the country life in the Vale of Belvoir.

Vernon Moore has opened with a new estate agents at Grantham rail station to cater for commuters from the capital.

Called Country and Equestrian, the outlet is part of Moores Estate Agents and based in the former first class waiting room at the station.

It has an entrance off platform one and is thought to be the first estate agent to be based at a railway station. It has three staff.

Mr Moore said the aim is to meet demand from people looking to sell their London homes in order to buy homes in the countryside around Grantham.

He said: “These are people who are looking to buy country cottages, farmhouses or country houses in the Vale of Belvoir and further afield. A one bed flat in London can cost £275,000 but that money can buy a lovely country cottage here.

“It means that within three hours a buyer from London can travel up, pop into our office and we will take them to a viewing and bring them back for them to return to London.”

The demand for country life has been fuelled partly by new technology, which means many people need only return to London for meetings, and the difference in property prices between the capital and further north.

To illustrate the point, the new office features a huge map showing how property prices fall the further you get from London.

He said: “Every minute you travel from London property prices fall by £12,600.”

“Our map allows buyers to work out property prices depending on where they are in their journey.”

He said: “I am pleasantly surprised at how many people are using the service. We are planning to open a similar office at the Peterborough rail station in August.”
