More than 60 representatives from firms in Grantham gathered to discuss ways to drive forward the town’s economic growth.

Members of the Grantham Business Club gave their insights and views about proposals to bring greater numbers of jobs and wealth to the town.

There was one key theme, namely growth and opportunities in Grantham.

Guest speaker was Councillor Bob Adams, leader of South Kesteven District Council who outlined his views on the future of Grantham and ongoing business and infrastructure developments.

Afterwards, the club’s new chair Darren Joint, managing director of Viking Signs, said: “There was one key theme that came out of the meeting, namely growth and opportunities in Grantham.

“There was some great insight from some major local businesses and investors.

“Everyone at the meeting agreed we need to encourage start-ups, create destination points in the town, capitalise on the positives and all shout about it.”

He added: “I’d like to thank all the business people who attended our first meeting of 2016 and joined in the lively discussions about how to ensure the future economic prosperity of the town.

“It really feels like we’re starting to turn the corner in terms of a positive attitude.

“Even though some of us have seen previous economic plans stall, Cllr Adams assured the meeting there really is ‘political will’ to make Grantham a leading sub-regional centre within the district.”

Cllr Adams said: “It was a very well attended and lively evening.

“If the numbers attending and the quality of the discussions continues it can only bode well for the future of the Business Club and the future relationship with the council.”

The club is poised to launch its own plan to encourage start-up businesses to flourish in Grantham. This will form the subject of the club’s next meeting on March 10 hosted by vice-chair, Howard Rudder of RecruitMe. It will also see the launch of Grantham Business Club initiatives around the forthcoming SKDC Enterprise Week and SK Pioneers.

Club membership is free and is open to all local business and organisations. For details visit http://granthambusinessclub.co.uk or email enquiries@granthambusinessclub.co.uk
