A “GREAT opportunity” has been created for a young person to learn the ins and outs of estate agency.
It comes in the form of an apprenticeship at Buckley Wand in Grantham, an unusual opportunity which will give one young person the chance to learn the trade.
Partners of the business in Westgate, Andrea Buckley and Martyn Wand, decided to offer the scheme as a way of sharing the knowledge they have gained over the years.
Martyn said: “We were very fortunate to win a customer care award in the Grantham Journal Business Awards.
“Both Andrea and myself have been very fortunate in doing the job we do for many years. We’ve been lucky to work with people who are very experienced, knowledgeable and professional. Now we want to give something back.”
Applicants will be assessed by the partners, and the lucky person chosen will go on to work towards an NVQ Level 3 in customer care. The scheme includes studies at Grantham College.
Candidates must be aged 16-24, local to the Grantham area, confident in working with people, organised and show commitment to their work.
Martyn said: “Working at an estate agents can be a very challenging experience.
“We’re relishing the opportunity and we’re quite excited, and we hope the successful applicant will be as well.
“There is the potential here for a long-term career.”
With youth unemployment at high levels, Andrea and Martyn hope young people see it as a stepping stone into a professional career and that the applications will come flooding in.
Andrea said: “It’s very difficult for younger people to walk into a job in this climate.
“We want to pick the right person and we’ll be looking for a little sparkle that’s there.”
