DELEGATES from all over the world gathered in Grantham this week for the biannual World Packaging Organisation (WPO) conference.
It is the first time in more than a decade that a conference has been held in the UK, and so for the gathering to come to Grantham is very special, said Grantham Mayor Mike Taylor.
Delegates’ first port of call on Monday was at the Mayor’s Parlour, where Councillor Taylor welcomed everyone.
He said: “It is not often that the parlour has the opportunity to welcome so many distinguished guests from such a wide and varied number of countries and cultures from all corners of the globe.”
He gave the group a brief history of Grantham and went on to present the WPO chairman Keith Pearson with a framed collage depicting some of Grantham’s places of interest, including the Guildhall and St Wulfram’s Church.
In return Mr Pearson presented Coun Taylor with a gift.
Mr Pearson said the group would be holding extensive meetings with no time for sight-seeing.
