Parking restrictions are to be imposed on a busy road leading to a housing estate and businesses.

Parking is to be banned on Caunt Road in Grantham between 8am and 6pm, Monday to Friday. The road, leading off Springfield Road, leads to the Hunters Gate estate and numerous businesses including Totemic, one of the largest employers in the town.

Lincolnshire County Council says the restrictions are due to be imposed by the middle of November depending on weather and legal factors.

Cllr Richard Davies, executive member for highways and transportation, said: “Caunt Road is a thriving part of Grantham with new housing developments and local businesses.

“We want to encourage more growth here in the future so it’s important to think about how the road can support this.

“With so many families living here now we need to make sure motorists can easily spot pedestrians and children.

“We also have a responsibility to keep traffic flowing freely and help alleviate congestion.

“We have consulted residents about our plans to introduce single yellow lines who have been supportive of our plans. We received just two objections so the restrictions, which are consistent with national guidelines, will go ahead. This will be paid for by a property developer and at no cost to the taxpayer.”

Grantham County Councillor Charmaine Morgan has opposed the restrictions. She said: “There is huge pressure on on-street parking spaces in Grantham south and Caunt Road provides important overflow spaces for the Springfield Road area. I suggested that a compromise would be to install traffic regulations on one side of Caunt Road but this proposal (also submitted by other residents) was rejected by highways officers.”
