An initiative to invite new traders to Grantham market has attracted a long-term stall holder.
In May, interested traders or businesses took advantage of an offer to pitch up at Grantham markets for just £10 as part of ‘Love Your Local Markets’ fortnight. Among them was Martin Stokes, of Supersonic Comics, who sells American first print editions of superhero comics and memorabilia. He sells his products online but trialed a stall at the town’s market and has not looked back, coming on board as a regular trader since.
He said: “The support I received from SKDC’s markets team has been great and they’ve really helped wherever they can to accommodate me. I always dreamed of starting up a business selling comics and I hope this can develop into a shop in the area in the future. I’m really keen on creating a meeting place and having a sense of community for those interested in this genre.
“Since I started trading the footfall has been good and the response from people has been really positive. I have traded at other local markets out of the district but found Grantham’s market has been a really good move for me.”
SKDC’s portfolio holder for grow the economy Councillor Frances Cartwright said: “Supporting all traders as much as we can is exceptionally important and I’m pleased Martin has found the transition to trade in Grantham a smooth one with the help of our team.”
