RUMOURS that some of Grantham’s few remaining big name stores are closing are largely untrue, the Journal can confirm.
Frantic whispers that WH Smith, Boots and Dorothy Perkins, all in High Street, are to close their doors and leave our town for good are unfounded gossip, store bosses say.
A spokesman for Dorothy Perkin said this week: “I have spoken to our retail operations team and the area manager and they are unaware of a store closure in Grantham.”
However, shoe shop Stead & Simpson is due to close its doors in The Pantiles. The firm was unable to comment this week, so it is not known how many, if any, jobs will be lost.
The shoe shop’s premises will not become empty, as Shoe Zone, which owns Stead & Simpson, will move straight in from its current location in The Isaac Newton Centre.
