A SUCCESSFUL businessman who turned over £1 million last year wants to build trade in his home town.
Tony Vockins, of Croxton Kerrial, is a partner in cleaning franchise Jani-King, which operates worldwide.
His section of the business, which he bought in July 2009, handles cleaning for businesses such as Odeon and Monsoon in areas like York, Nuneaton, and Skegness.
But Mr Vockins, who started his career at a business in George Street, Grantham, in 1973, would love to return to work in the town.
He said: “The business has gone a little better than I expected so far. Unfortunately at the moment I’ve got nothing in Grantham but I would love to get something because it’s where I was born and bred.”
When Mr Vockins, who was previously a managing director of a multi-million pound company, first took over the business he did some of the cleaning jobs himself but now he employs 170 people.
He said: “It’s hard work but if you want to be successful you have to assume that it will be. I was happy to do some of the cleaning in the early days.”
Despite his success Mr Vockins is still working hard and he aims to have doubled the business in the next 18 months.
