A COUPLE are celebrating their Diamond Wedding anniversary in style with a party, family meal and a cruise.

Vic and Betty Kerr, of Main Street, Westborough, married in Dry Doddington Church on July 26, 1952, after a year engagement.

The couple, who were both from farming backgrounds, met when they were teenagers at school.

Betty said: “We lived on neighbouring farms.”

After a their friendship turned to romance the couple decided to get married.

Vic said: “We talked about it but Betty said I had to ask her father so I had to work up the courage to ask him.”

After the wedding they went on honeymoon to the Isle of Wight before returning to the farm in Westborough, where they have lived ever since.

Betty was a nurse in Nottingham and Grantham and Vic spent all his working life on the farm. The couple have always been involved in village life with Vic being on the parish council since 1956 and South Kesteven District Council for the past 20 years.

They have two daughters Gillian and Susan and a son John, who now runs the farm. They also have six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

They celebrated with 70 family and friends on Thursday at Stoke Rochford Hall and on Sunday night they hosted a party in the village. Later in the year they plan to go on a cruise around the Canary Islands.

Betty added: “We have enjoyed good health and taken everyday as it’s come.”
