THERE is great news for Grantham as a ladies’ clothing shop earmarked for closure has been saved - as have the jobs of its seven staff members.

As reported in the Journal, Bonmarche, in High Street, was set to close after its parent firm went into administration.

But as the seven employees were being consulted over redundancy, in came a phone call which turned things right around.

Manager Vicky Beal, 41, said: “I cried when I heard the news. We stopped serving, everyone cried then the customers in the shop cried.

“Customers have said thank goodness common sense has prevailed.”

The initial news of closure had come as a shock to the team at Bonmarche following 12 months of good trading.

Now, they are looking towards a bright future. The store was emptied this week and will reopen on Monday with a limited stock. Full stock will be on sale from April 2.

Vicky said: “We are absolutely over the moon to stay open.

“It’s been an emotional rollercoaster with good days and bad days. We’ve laughed together and cried together.”

Bonmarche was acquired by Sun European Partners.
