Community spirit is strong in Barrowby, with villagers venturing out to support the village’s third annual scarecrow festival.
Held over the weekend, the festival was popular with families, many of whom took part by creating their own scarecrow in keeping with the theme of ‘nursery rhymes and fairytales’.
Some were placed on the village green, while others were put on show in gardens and on driveways.
Jackie West was one of the event organisers. She said: “It was so amazing, such a successful weekend. It brought the whole community together.
“It’s very much a family event.”
Also on the green was a barbecue on Saturday afternoon, which was so popular not a single burger or sausage was left over.
Throughout the weekend, the church hosted a family fun day with games for the children and lunches available.
Meanwhile, the village’s fruit and vegetable show was held in the Memorial Hall, while villagers sold their home-made wares in the Reading Room as part of a fair called ‘Made in Barrowby’.
Proceeds from the event will go to the village newsletter, church funds and a charity not yet chosen.
