A memorial service for Grantham boy Pierre Barnes will be held in Barrowby on Monday (November 12).
The father of the schoolboy, who died on the island of Porquerolles last week, has told the Journal the service will be held there because Pierre so enjoyed his time as a pupil of Barrowby Primary School.
Mr Barnes, 57, visited the primary school this morning (Monday) and spoke during the school assembly.
He said: “I told them Pierre died very quickly and would not have been in pain for long or distressed for long.
“And I said how happy he had been at the school.”
The Barnes family, of Barrowby Road in Grantham, were thrust into the spotlight last Saturday, as 12-year-old Pierre went missing while out on a lone bike ride.
Search teams scoured the island in the hope of finding him alive. Sadly, his body was found on the seabed of the southern French island on Thursday. An autopsy confirmed Pierre, a King’s School pupil, died from drowning.
The memorial service will be held at All Saints Church in Barrowby at 1.45pm.
