A MAN who broke into two cars and stole £6,228 worth of golf equipment was given a 12 month community order and asked to pay £520 compensation.

Brian Whitehead, 38, left blood at the scene when he smashed into the cars, which were parked at Belton Woods Hotel overnight on September 2.

Rob Arthur, defending, said: “Over the last couple of months he had been in a bad way with cocaine and he got offered some easy money to go with a guy who sells a lot of golf clubs.”

Whitehead, from Kendal Drive, Castleford, admitted the thefts and received 120 hours of unpaid work.
