A body recovered from the River Wear in Durham on Friday afternoon has been formally identified as that of former Grantham King’s School student Euan Coulthard.
Euan, a law student at St Mary’s College in Durham, was reported missing on Thursday, January 15, after he failed to return home following a night out in the city. Euan was from Bottesford where his parents and sister live.
After the formal identification took place a pathologist carried out a post mortem examination. The results of this will be forwarded to HM Coroner but police say they are satisfied there are no suspicious circumstances regarding Euan’s death.
The coroner is expected to arrange for an inquest to open later this week.
Supt Colin Williamson, of Durham Constabulary, said: “We are very grateful for the assistance we received during our searches from Euan’s friends and fellow students, as well as all the other agencies and volunteers who took part. Our thoughts are now very much with Euan’s family at this sad time.”
