BARROWBY man John Thorpe admitted killing his mother on the day his murder trial was due to begin.
Thorpe, 53, who lived with his mother in Reedings Road, Barrowby, appeared before Mrs Justice Macur today at Nottingham Crown Court.
Thorpe denied murdering his mother, Mary Thorpe, at some time between March 30 and April 3 of this year but admitted a lesser charge.
Entering his plea, Thorpe said: “I am not guilty of murder but I am guilty of manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility.”
The plea to the lesser charge was accepted by the court.
The case was adjourned until December 21 for sentencing.
