A CARE worker admitted two charges of causing death by careless driving following a head-on smash which left two pensioners dead - including a Grantham woman.

Lindsay Smith, 20, of The Cloisters, Grimsby, pleaded guilty at Lincoln Crown Court a collision on the A631 at Harpswell Hill on September 25 2010.

Jean Matthews, 60, who lived in Stamford Street, Grantham, and Don Johnson, 74, of Mill Mere Road, Corringham, who was driving the other car, were killed in the collision.

John Lloyd-Jones, defending, told the hearing that Smith admitted momentarily losing concentration causing her Vauxhall Corsa to drive into the path of an oncoming vehicle.

Judge Sean Morris adjourned sentence for the preparation of a probation report and Smith was granted bail.
