A DRIVER who hit a building but did not stop admitted a charge of failing to stop at the scene of an accident.

Falklands veteran Paul Davis, of Halford Close, South Witham, was driving through Colsterworth when he struck the edge of a building. However, he did not realise what had happened until he arrived home.

Rory McMillan, defending, told the court Davis is on medication for a variety of ailments including arthritis but is cleared to drive.

He added: “He is totally reliant on his car. Without his car, he would be effectively housebound.”

Mr McMillan told the court Davis had swerved slightly to avoid an oncoming car travelling at speed, causing him to strike the building.

The impact damaged his wing mirror but Davis did not realise until he arrived home. Shortly afterwards, the police arrived.

Mr McMillan said Davis intended to report the incident the next day.

Davis was fined £150 and ordered to pay £85 in costs along with a £15 surcharge.

He was also given six penalty points on his licence.
