Grantham Cemetery: Teen charged with attack linked to Facebook

A TEENAGER has been charged by police on suspicion of attacking the home of a man wrongly believed to have been involved in Saturday’s destruction at Grantham Cemetery.

The 19-year-old is charged with criminal damage to a window and police believe the incident is directly related to comments made on Facebook this week following the attack on Grantham Cemetery.

Insp Nigel Storey said: “This highlights a problem with social media sites, when rumours and speculation are circulated which can very quickly be seen as fact by others who then seek to take the law into their own hands.

“I would stress that four people have been arrested on suspicion of causing damage at the cemetery.

“The victim for this offence has not been arrested and is not suspected of being involved in offences committed at the cemetery.”

The teenager will appear at Grantham Magistrates’ Court on April 13.
