A Russian man was caught driving a stolen Mercedes van which he bought in Nottingham for £1,000.
Maksim Filiusin, 35, of Oxford Street, Grantham, admitted handling stolen goods in Marston, on March 1.
Prosecuting, Tracey Ross said that police stopped the van at 7.45pm on Cliff Lane. The van had been stolen between 10pm the previous night and 5.45am that day. He told police he had gone to Nottingham in a taxi to buy a vehicle. He ended up being taken to an unknown place in Nottingham where he bought the van and received no documents. He later went for a drive in the van and was stopped by police. TBill Frasier, defending, said Filiusin was approached by a man who spoke Russian in Nottingham and was offered a van. It was less than he was going to pay. Mr Frasier said his client knew nothing about any contents in the van and accepted what he paid for the vehicle was not near its real value.
Magistrates fined Filiusin £150 and ordered costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £20.
