A man who crashed a car he had taken without permission while over the drink/drive limit pleaded guilty to all charges at Grantham Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

Karl Peacock, 22, of Brittain Drive, Grantham, took a MG ZR car belonging to a friend who was working as a pizza delivery man for a fast food business in Wharf Road.

On October 24, the owner of the vehicle had been driving the car with two friends. The owner left the keys in the ignition and went to cash up his takings.

The court heard that Peacock, who had drunk four cans of Stella lager and was described as having “staggered into the car,” decided to drop the other man home, despite not being the holder of a driving licence.

After dropping off the other man, he flipped the car on to its roof near Wilsford.

He was treated by fire and ambulance staff.

Peacock was taken to Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham, where we was breathalysed. The reading found 179 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood; the legal limit is 80.

The magistrates sent the case to Lincoln Crown Court for sentencing due to the seriousness of the crime.

He was released on unconditional bail, although the court imposed an interim driving disqualification of six months or until his case is heard.
