Police stopped a car for speeding and smelled cannabis when they spoke to the driver.

Thomas Luke Eames, 23, of Ninth Avenue, Grantham, admitted driving with a proportion of a controlled drug over the specified limit.

Prosecuting, Hannah Strawson said police officers stopped Eames’ Vauxhall Vectra at 2.30am in Caunt Road, Grantham, on March 29. He was arrested and two samples of blood were taken at the police station.

Chris Pye-Smith, defending, said Eames would lose his job as a result of the offence as his employment involved driving for Euro Car Parts.

Mr Pye-Smith added: “He has made a very silly mistake in committing this offence. I would suggest this is not a high level of offending and the police did not comment on his driving apart from the speed he was doing. They do not suggest he was weaving across the road as he may have done if over the alcohol limit.”

Magistrates disqualified Eames from driving for 12 months and fined him £120. He was ordered to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £20.
