Grantham court: Punched ‘absolutely trollied’ man who grabbed girlfriend

A 20-year-old admitted assaulting another man, who had provoked him by grabbing his pregnant girlfriend by the hair.

Keia Dean Hull, of Redcross Street, Grantham, pleaded guilty to assault by beating, and to possession of cannabis, on December 13.

In a statement, read out by prosecutor Jim Clare, the complainant in the case admitted he was ‘absolutely trollied’ after attending a work’s Christmas party. In the early hours he was making his way across the Market Place, when he saw Hull, who he knew, standing in a group of four outside Pizza Place.

He said he could not recollect exactly what happened next, due to the alcohol, but does recall touching the back of a girl’s head. He was then punched in the face by Hull, before receiving further punches and ending up in hospital where he had a CT scan. He sustained no facial fractures, but was left with a burst blood vessel in his eye.

Mr Clare confirmed CCTV showed Hull throw a punch, but then both men were fighting before police got involved, to whom Hull said: “My pregnant girlfriend got grabbed by her hair, so I punched the f**k out of him.”

The court heard that Hull and his girlfriend, who had not been drinking due to her condition, were on their way home when this other man approached, ‘putting his arm around her even though she said no. He pulled her hair back and called her a s**g’, said Rob Arthur, defending.

Hull must pay a £60 fine, £85 in costs and a £20 victim surcharge.

No separate penalty was made for the cannabis found on him when he was arrested.
