A motorist who was caught drink driving his BMW in Grantham described his actions as “stupid”.

Darius Sereiva, 32, of Cornwall Close, Grantham, admitted drink driving on March 15. He also admitted driving without a licence and without insurance.

Prosecuting, Daniel Pietryka told the court that information had been passed to the police about Sereiva and he was stopped in his car in Springfield Road at 7.30pm. He failed a roadside breath test and a further test at the police station showed a reading of 63 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Mr Pietryka said Sereiva was driving without L plates, he was the only person in the car and it was established he was driving without insurance.

Sereiva, who was not represented, said in court: “It was stupid. I am guilty.”

Magistrates fined Sereiva £250 for drink driving and disqualified him from driving for 17 months. He was fined a further £250 for driving without insurance and was ordered to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £25. No separate penalty was ordered for the licence offence.

If Sereiva successfully completes a drink driving rehabilitation course, his disqualification will be reduced by four months.
