Friends and helpers have gathered in Bottesford today to aid in the search for Jack Foster, 83, who has been missing since Tuesday.

Mr Foster, also known as Derek, from Long Bennington, went missing on Tuesday after a visit to Grantham hospital where he was treated for a fractured shoulder. He was last seen at Grantham bus station at 2.35pm waiting at stand 5 where buses leave for Bottesford.

Mr Foster was wearing a brown three-quarter length anorak type coat with a hood, what appears to be a green deer stalker hat, dark trousers and brown shoes.

A group of about 50 people gathered at the Red Lion pub to search for Mr Foster in Bottesford this afternoon following appeals on Facebook and Twitter, but without success.

Alice Noquet said on Facebook: “Thank you to every one who came today. We’ve done our best today but will not give up til we find Derek. We’re currently trying to sort another search for tomorrow so will keep you posted.”

Margaret Wanless, whose later father was Mr Foster’s cousin, said: “Have just read this, after being alerted about Derek by my cousin, and thank you, everyone, for such kindness in going on the walk to look for him. He is my late father’s cousin (John Wadkin) and I do hope that you are successful today in finding news of him. I will keep looking here and thank you all again.”

A search will continue tomorrow (Monday). Anybody who would like to help can meet outside Grantham Museum at noon.

Insp Richard Hammond, of Grantham Police Station, said yesterday: “If Jack has not had shelter for the last four nights since he was last seen – particularly last night when it snowed heavily – we are concerned he possibly could not have survived that weather. We have previously asked people living in the north part of Grantham to check their outbuildings and sheds for any trace of someone sheltering there. In view of the new information from the bus station, we are now widening our search into Leicestershire and asking our colleagues there, particularly in the Bottesford area, to conduct similar searches and enquiries to the ones we have been making, A key to getting this information to the majority of people is getting media coverage and I hope we can generate some interest in Leicestershire as well now.”

Anyone with information on Mr Foster should call police on 101 and quote Lincolnshire Police Incident number 392 of December 23.
