A Grantham man was sentenced to 18 months in prison after causing grievous bodily harm to a police officer.
The officer, Lee Clark, went on to retire from Lincolnshire Police following the incident in August 2013, in which he was injured arresting Andrew John Tennick on suspicion of burglary in Bourne.
Mr Clark fully recovered from the physical injury he sustained but went on to suffer post-traumatic stress disorder which brought his career to a premature conclusion after five years’ service.
After a series of delays and adjournments, 44-year-old Tennick, from the Grantham area, appeared at Lincoln Crown Court on November 29, 2013, where he was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment. He had pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm to Mr Clark.
The investigating officer was Detective Constable Steve Nesbit, of Spalding CID, who said: “This assault effectively ended the career of a valued officer and colleague. Hopefully the fact that the offender received a custodial sentence will deter other people who think about using violence in an effort to evade arrest.”
