Families living in rural areas are urged to protect their fuel tanks to prevent thefts.
Police community support officer Stuart Bowden, who covers the rural area south of Grantham, issued a warning following a theft of diesel from a farm in Osgodby.
PCSO Bowden said: “Living and working in a rural community has many advantages, but a disadvantage can be the remoteness of our area. Regular checking of fuel tanks and outbuildings can deter the opportunist criminal and also speed up the reporting of any incidents that may occur.
“Please report suspicious behaviour or vehicles to the police by calling 101, especially if it occurs near to a visit from a fuel or oil supplier.”
